Joint paper between CIsco, DT and Telefnoica on the methodology of multi-layer planning and the savings that can be achieved in real-world networks as a result of multi-layer planning and multi-layer restoration.

This abstract analyzes the challenege in today's optical networks and proposes several ways for addressing them. The most promising solution is liekly to be multi-layer interworking between the optical layer and the IP layer. A key tool for facilitating such collaboration is multi-layer SDN.

First paper to provide a practical framework for multi-layer restoration between the optical layer and the IP layer. This is a critical capability to enable capex savings in the core of the network.
